About Me

How I Think

When working with others (or yourself), it helps to know how you’re wired. I’m sharing the psychometrics that makeup my personality so that you understand me better as a prospective editing partner. The Gallup CliftonStrengths methodology is a positive psychology approach based on developing what you’re best at. I’ve divided them up into four buckets based on my own writing coaches’ input about how they manifest for me. For your entertainment, my Meyers-Briggs, DISC, and Big Five psychometrics are also below.

Dave Reed

Book Shaman, Story Grid Certified Editor, Author, Avid Reader, Software Engineer, Super Nerd

Dave Reed is a Story Grid Certified Editor and an award-winning author of science fiction and fantasy from San Antonio, Texas. I’m a story super nerd who has trained with almost every living narrative guru out there over the past decade who teaches some aspect of the commercial fiction craft. There are a few more swamis on my wish list to workshop with and apprentice myself to, but I digress…

After slogging alone for years through the dark in search of narrative enlightenment, Dave came to Story Grid on the recommendation of his writing coaches. Here, he found the engineering light for stories his inner software developer had been seeking all along.

Although he’s a literary omnivore as a reader, as an editor Dave’s specialties are Action, Love, Thriller, and War genres, preferably in dark fantasy, gritty sci-fi, and steamy contemporary settings. He’s also adores working in certain niches of Big Idea nonfiction such self-improvement, software, business, and writing craft.

As the founder of BookShaman.com, what Dave loves most is searching through the dark side-by-side with likeminded authors of all skill levels. Together, we can take the fight to Resistance in search of great stories to bring back for the people.
